About Us
How It Began
Founded in 1995, Trimarine began as a project management company.
We specialise in the construction, process engineering, design and fitting-out of high-performance yachts made from advanced composites.
Trimarine formally brings together a group of people who have been working with reinforced plastic materials for over 40 years – from the simplest polyester resin constructions to the most sophisticated products made from pre-impregnated materials and high-performance fibres – Firmly believing that their technological knowledge and organisational skills can be extremely useful to anyone involved in the design and manufacture of composite components.
Today, after over 30 years, Trimarine is able to offer an integrated range of services, from the design, planning and construction of entire structures for marine, civil and industrial applications, to the development and certification of specific construction processes, in line with the client’s requirements.

Although primarily focused on the process engineering of composite structures for marine applications, the company’s members have extensive experience spanning all aspects of organising and operating a shipyard for prototype construction, developing and managing industrial production facilities for mass-produced components, and managing construction projects worldwide.
Equally important and useful for better understanding the needs of its clients is the sailing experience accumulated over the years by the members of Trimarine: among them are those who have spent years as captains of pleasure craft over 30 metres in length, accumulating more than 300,000 nautical miles across all the world’s oceans, and those who have designed a variety of pleasure and working vessels.
How We Evolved

In the late 1980s, for the America’s Cup challenge ‘Il Moro di Venezia’, we collaborated on the design and construction of a composite structure that was far ahead of its time. During our time at Tencara, we built one of the largest and most sophisticated ovens ever designed for this purpose, as well as speed record-breaking boats and training vessels for the Italian Navy
More than three decades have passed since our team began building and managing the construction of all aspects of composite vessels; many of these projects began with the design and construction or modification of the shipyard itself or the equipment required for new construction.

In most of our projects, there was no need to set up a shipyard; all that was required was to build an oven for processing pre-impregnated materials and several heated tables for constructing flat panels.
People, manual expertise and technical insight are the most important elements in composite construction, alongside the supervision and support of cross-functional personnel with the right skills.
Based on these requirements, we have travelled to shipyards around the world, designing and building ovens for various facilities in Spain, Italy and Dubai, as well as the resulting vessels.

Facilities Across the whole World

Over the years, we have expanded our expertise beyond mere project management in the sense of pure consultancy, thanks to significant milestones.
Firstly, the experience gained in 1989, when the core Trimarine team, together with a team of over 200 people, designed and built the shipyard where the five Moro di Venezia yachts were developed, built and tested.
Then came the shipyards for subsequent America’s Cups, such as that of the +39 challenge, where we developed and built the shipyard in Valencia, and subsequently managed the entire operation of the third Italian team in the competition.
And finally, the more than 100 projects completed over the years, through which we have become a benchmark in the world of composite construction.

Our Boatyard on the Atlantic Ocean
After many years of working with shipyards around the world, in 2010 Trimarine decided that the time had come to complement its consultancy work with a new production facility in Portugal, this time built by Trimarine, for Trimarine.
When the opportunity arose to develop a series of prototypes for a well-known French luxury brand, we decided to invest in a state-of-the-art facility, fully equipped to handle any type of composite construction.

Trimarine Compósitos Lda was therefore established as a Portuguese company in 2012, giving rise to a 1,800-square-metre shipyard dedicated to the construction of composite components and yachts.
Thanks to its strategic location on the waterfront south-east of Lisbon, all types of composite boats can be built here, including large multihulls which, due to their size, require facilities capable of providing direct launching.

Although the first boats built were extremely refined and technically excellent, the client decided to leave the yachting industry, as it was too far removed from the company’s core business.
This allowed us to dedicate the shipyard entirely to high-performance boats, and within a few years, the boats built included the winner of the 2017 Rolex Fastnet Race and the winner of Les Voiles de Saint Tropez in 2017.

Today, with over 40 years’ experience in the sector and nearly 15 years of own shipyard operations, Trimarine is able to capitalise on significant synergies between its consultancy activities – which it continues to carry out worldwide – and the shipyard in Portugal, where large monohulls and multihulls, complex composite components, ultra-light furniture and tenders for the superyacht sector continue to be built.
