Trimarine Advanced Marine Projects, part of multinational team assigned to assist in assembly of components for 60’ super Cat constructed in Salvador-Bahia for private client.
May 1998 - Aug 1999 Composites Engineer Prada America’s Cup, Grosseto, Italy
Factory set up. All systems ( vacuum, extraction, air, power, lighting ), fabrication of full size mock-up and construction of 2 America’s Cup boats for the Italian entrant, Prada.
Nov 1997 - Mar 1998 Shipwright West End Yachts, Mangrove Bay, Bermuda
Shipwright in boatyard at the Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda. Resigned from this job due to high cost of living, poor boatyard management and political problems between Bermudans and ex-pats.
May to Aug 1997 Yachtbuilder Southampton, U.K.
Keel and rudder fairing and installation, interior fit out of all systems ( water ballast, galley, etc) in kevlar for British entrant ‘Silk Cut’ competing in Whitbread Round the World Race.

Assisting purchase of a 40’ charter cat, fitting out ready for commercial charter, working as engineer on a delivery from U.S.A. to southern Caribbean.

Loft to launch construction of 50’ composite cruiser/racing yacht, working as part of a three man team and simultaneously instructing local workforce.

Coastal Fisheries Development Corporation Boatyard, Republic of Yemen, 4th Fisheries Development Project.
MacAlister Elliott and Partners Limited, Lymington, Hampshire
Using hands on approach with local Arab labour supervising and instructing in the building of 7m-17m GRP boats for use by the artisanal fisherman. This work comprised of the plug and mould construction and finishing of craft powered by outboard and inboard engines.
This project was interrupted by the Civil War and repatriation to U.K. commenced May 1994.
Jun to Set 1994 Engineer Mogadishu, Somalia. Private client
(Short term contract during above Civil War).
MacAlister Elliott and Partners Limited
Construction and commissioning of a fish processing factory, cold store, ice machine and housing at a site 60km north of Mogadishu. Working with one other engineer and a master fisherman. Supervision of an indigenous workforce of 10 men. Inter-tribal conflicts in the area made conditions very difficult and hazardous but, despite this the construction was successfully completed and commissioned.
Nov 1991 - Mar 1994 The Parachute Regiment U.K., Kenya, N. Ireland and Cyprus
Rifleman and latter Mortar Detachment in the Parachute Regiment, working in Aldershot, Northern Ireland, Kenya and Cyprus. Crowd control, terrorist interrogation, property and vehicle searches, guarding of military installations and high risk assignments. The position required high levels of diplomacy, tact and professionalism, and sensitivity to local conditions and people.
Addendum: Whilst serving in the Parachute Regiment
For this period, during annual leave, approximately 10-17 weeks and being barracked locally, ample opportunity arose to continue boat building on private repairs and general yard work i.e. Claridge, Green Marine, as my skills were greatly in demand.

Yachtbuilder working on maxi and other high class racing yachts. Hull construction and fitting out. Fibreglass, kevlar, carbon and wood construction. High quality craftsmanship required in this exacting trade.
Jun 1988 - Mar 1989 Boatbuilder w/John Claridge (Boatbuilder), Lymington, Hampshire
Boatbuilder/repairer building lightweight racing dinghies, primarily of plywood, but also of fibreglass and high tech materials. Traditional boat building such as clinker, carvel, cold moulding etc. High standard required for discerning private customers.
