TP 52 CLASS

The Transpac 52 class, born in the USA with the scope of creating a class of Ocean going yachts that could compete in real time in their offshore and coastal regattas soon made it’s way to the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean circuit of the TP52 class took off and from 2006, known as the Breitling Med Cup, has become a de Facto World championship where the elite of professional sailing meets every year. Even the various America’s Cup Teams and their sponsors have found in the TP52 an excellent media and training instrument. Trimarine has debuted in this class in 2004-2005 taking charge of the construction of “Lexus”, a Reichel-Pugh design built in Tarragona (Spain) at Barcos Deportivos, the same yard with which in previous years we had built “Fortuny” an 80’ Fast Cruiser designed by German Frers. “Lexus”, built as a Carbon/Epoxy prepreg/Nomex Honeycomb cored structure, practically a little America’s Cup, with Russell Coutts at the helm was one of the animators of the first edition of the Mediterranean championship, winning the prestigious Copa Del Rey in 2005. Another TP52 built with the participation of Trimarine was “Mutua Madrilena”, raced by the team of Vasco Vascotto in the 2008 season. “Mutua Madrilena” was designed by Judel/Vrolijk and built in the winter of 2007-08 at the Italian yard Carbonlab. Trimarine supplied technical assistance for the construction of this very detailed structure, built of Carbon/Epoxy prepreg with a Nomex honeycomb core using a female carbon fiber mould formed over a precision NC milled master model. Trimarine has maintained its involvement in the TP52 class with various upgrade modification interventions in several yachts of this very active class.
